Weekend Getaway!

My husband and I were lucky enough to get a weekend away, before the chaos of Christmas! Nantucket has a Christmas Stroll every year, the first weekend of December. We love it! Everything is decorated for the Holidays, and Santa makes an appearance on Main Street.

Its a great time for us to get away together, to just relax and actually sleep through the night without children in our bed! I always come back recharged and ready to dig into Christmas preparations and Christmas shopping!

Even though these weekends are all about relaxation, I also like to look good!! After all, it is also time away from the kids and my yoga pants!!! So, here is what I wore for this last weekend! Remember: when traveling in the winter, get pieces that are interchangeable. You don’t want to pack three different heavy sweaters, so go with a neutral color that you can interchange with different tops! I lived in this grey sweater all weekend!

Thanksgiving’s Little Visitors

I like to always have a special treat for our little visitors at the Thanksgiving Table! Since bakeries usually charge a small fortune for their individually wrapped cookies, try looking for fall themed cookies at your local Whole Foods or supermarket. Whole Foods has a wonderful “cookie by the pound” display.

So, I snatched up these cookies this afternoon and wrapped them myself at home. I will put a cookie on each place-setting at the children’s table, and it adds a wonderful decoration to the table!! And the kids love seeing cookies on their plates when they arrive!!

Thanksgiving Centerpieces

I love using fresh flowers on Thanksgiving Day for my centerpieces. Just remember to keep the vases relatively low… you want your guests to be able to see and speak with their neighbors across the table!  I like to start my arrangements with a fall bouquet from my local supermarket or florist.

** I highly recommend Whole Foods, they always have amazing flowers**

Next I pick up some bouquets of roses in fall hues, think oranges, yellows, and creams.

Always feed your flowers… for larger vases I would use two packets.

Since I am using a shorter vase I will need to trim the flowers to fit. Even if you are using a taller vase, you will still need to slightly trim the bottom of all your flowers. You want a fresh cut so the flowers can better absorb the water and plant food.

I put the fall bouquet into the vase first and spread the flowers out.

Then I trim and individually add the roses for the best look!
